Hepburn Springs is a resort town in the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region often referred to as the ‘Spa Capital of Australia’ as it is situated in the middle of the largest concentration of mineral springs in Australia.
Just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne, Hepburn Springs is nestled amongst the Macedon Ranges offering a picturesque setting of Australian forests with fresh mountain air.
The region is home to a myriad of day spas and therapy centres offering hydrotherapy, massage and beauty therapy, all making use of the spring water’s naturally occurring health-giving minerals.
Hepburn Springs is a historical village established during the gold rush of the 1850’s when Swiss Italian migrants moved to the area, evident in the gardens and architecture of the region’s centre, Main Road. Along Main Road stop at any of the cafes and restaurants for a delightful culinary experience or indulge in a beer and a snack at the historic country pub.
Within driving distance from Hepburn Spring’s centre are more interesting sights including the historic Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm, where lavender fields bloom from November through to February and for the sports fan the Cricket Willow, where a wide range of sporting memorabilia is displayed along with the first cricket bat.
Natural sights well worth a visit include the Hepburn Springs Mineral Springs Reserve where the mineral waters can be sampled by hand or pump or for a leisurely walk Hepburn Regional Park. For a longer walking expedition try the 16 kilometre Tipperary Track on which you will see Sailors Falls, the extinct volcano Mount Franklin, the Blowhole and the Hepburn Pool.
